Initial Setup

First-day checklist for administrators — log in, license, connect models, create users and groups, and prepare your first knowledge base.

Once IntraLLM is installed (Installation), a short initial setup gets the platform ready for your teams. This page is a checklist for administrators; each step links to a detailed page elsewhere in this guide.

1. Sign in as administrator

Open the platform URL your IT team received and sign in with the administrator account provided at handover.

First action:

Change the default administrator password immediately from Account → Update Password in user settings. See Account & Security.

2. Confirm the licence

Open Admin Panel → Licensing and confirm:

  • The licence status is active and shows your organisation and expiry.
  • The features covered by your plan are enabled.

See Licensing.

3. Check compute health

Open Dashboard and Cluster Manager to confirm nodes, containers and storage are healthy before inviting users:

4. Connect model endpoints

Models power every feature. Under Admin Panel → Connections, confirm at least one model endpoint is connected and tested:

  • A local model service for open-weight models, and/or
  • An OpenAI-compatible external endpoint if you permit external models.

See Connections and Models.

5. Decide what users may see

Admin Panel capability pages control which features users can access — Tools, Images, Videos, Documents, Search, Code, Audio, Agentic and more. Decide your defaults now; each is covered in the Administrator Guide.

6. Create users and groups

Create user accounts or connect your identity provider, then group people by team or role and assign permissions:

7. Prepare your first knowledge base

A knowledge base lets AI answer from your documents. Create one, upload a small representative set of documents, and test it in chat before rolling out broadly:

8. Set guardrails and policies

Review Guardrails to align AI behaviour with your policies before general rollout, and configure Evaluations if you plan quality benchmarking.

9. Invite your users

When the steps above are done, share the platform URL. New users follow the Quick Start, which walks them through their first chat, template and knowledge base.

Suggested rollout order: pilot team → collect feedback → publish approved templates (Work Station) → broaden access group by group.
