A Skill packages a tested procedure — the steps, instructions and tool usage for one task — into a named, reusable capability. Build it once, then call it from workflows (Skills node) and agents instead of rewriting the logic each time.
The Skills catalogue
Open Skills (from the Workflow module or the Work Station sidebar) to see the catalogue:
- Search skills — find a skill by name or description.
- Cards — each skill shows its name (e.g.
weekly-status-report), description, and who created it. - Create — add a new skill.
- Select a skill to open its detail view: description, definition, and where it is used.
Create a skill
- Select Create.
- Choose how to start:
- From a description — describe the capability in plain language ("produce a weekly status report from these sections…"). The platform drafts a working skill you can review and adjust.
- Blank / direct editing — define the skill yourself.
- Give it a clear, lowercase Skill Name (think of it as a command others will recognise) and an optional Description.
- Save. It now appears in the catalogue and in workflow/agent skill pickers.
View mode and Code mode
Every skill can be inspected two ways:
| Mode | What it shows |
|---|---|
| View mode | A readable presentation of what the skill does — suitable for reviewers and non-technical users. |
| Code mode | The underlying definition for precise editing — suitable for creators and administrators. |
Reviewers can understand a skill before approving its use; creators can edit exactly what runs.
Using skills
- In workflows: add a Skills node and select the skill; it runs as one step with its own inputs/outputs.
- In agents: grant a skill to an agent as a capability it may use when pursuing its objective. See Agentic Workflows.
- In templates: skills are part of the Work Station libraries templates can draw on. See Work Station.
Skills vs other building blocks
| Reusable thing | Contains | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt | Text you insert into a chat | Personal reuse of wording |
| Skill | A capability definition with steps/tool usage | Sharing how to do a task across workflows and agents |
| Template | Assistant config: instructions + knowledge + capabilities | A complete assistant persona for a job |
| Workflow | A full multi-step process | End-to-end automation |
Governance notes
- Skills run with the tools available to the workflow or agent that invokes them — permissions still apply.
- Review a skill's definition (Code mode) before adopting it broadly; a skill is a promise of consistent behaviour.
- Deletion/removal availability follows your group permissions. See Permissions.
